all is well...

I have been silent for a few weeks, but not tonight. Once again the basketball universe is in order. Why? Because Duke beat UNC. I am a Duke fan who has great respect for the Heels, which is why it's such a sweet pleasure to beat them. There is nothing like dethroning a dynasty...and over the past 20 years, that's exactly what Duke has done. UNC was, without a doubt, the KING of the ACC...but Coach K has changed all of that and it's the hardest thing for a Tarheel to admit.

Here are the facts:

Since 1985 - the first year Coach K had a full recruiting class...

ACC Regular Season Championships:

    - Duke 11 (5 in a row)         - UNC 7 (2 in a row)

ACC Tournament Championships:

    - Duke 10 (5 in a row)         - UNC 6 (2 in a row)

NCAA Tournament:

    Final Fours:

    - Duke 9        - UNC 7

    Championship Games:

    - Duke 7      - UNC 2

   Championships:

   - Duke 3 (2 in a row)   - UNC 2
 

Now, I understand that UNC has the overall advantage over Duke and they are certainly one of the premier basketball Dynasties of all time (second only to UCLA...maybe)....but...the numbers don't lie... 

Since Coach K came on the scene, Duke has become the premier basketball program in the ACC and the NCAA. 

And yes, we took that crown from UNC.

I don't have a vested interest in either program, but I do highly respect both Coach K and Roy Williams as coaches.

co_heir...I have GREAT respect for Roy and the Tarheel program. I really do think they are the greatest Basketball program of all time...but as of late (last 20 years)...we have taken their place in the ACC. WE are the team to beat...most championships, etc.

Still, anytime these guys play...it's a good game.

I would still consider myself a "tarheel fan"...I respect the program and love any team from the state of N.C. I cheered like mad when N.C. State won in 1983 and when Duke made the final games in the late 80's.

However, since I went to Duke in 1991...I have only been a RABID and loyal Duke fan...and yes, that was even through our dark "K-less" days! You can't walk on that hallowed ground and not be "converted".;)
