college football is not a sport...

I haven't blogged in a while - incredibly busy working, coaching middle school basketball, and working on some things for next fall. Anyway, I had to blog about this: college football, the non-sport.

Yes, I have concluded that college football is not a real sport. In fact, I would rate NASCAR as more of a "sport" than college football. College football is for men and boys who like to kiss their sister. Why do I say that? Because if you like "ties" and sports where "everyone is a winner" then you must love college football because there is never a champion. Think about it - a bunch of sports writers and computer geeks determine who will play in the championship game and that one game determines the "champion".

Truly, college football is a joke. I will not watch it again. If they don't grow up and allow MEN to play it out on the field and let the BEST TEAM win, regardless of their pedigree, then I'll never watch it. I don't want to watch boys kissing their sisters, and that, my friend, is the best description of college football. It's the sport where everyone is a "winner".

Sheesh! What a bunch of losers!

Of course you only mean NCAA Div I-A, as the other divisions do play it out on the field. Don't tear them all down for the sins of a few.

Well now...

Conference championships are still determined on the field, and it is at the national level, things are so screwed up.

Nascar is for boys who like to kiss their brothers.

Wow, the mud-slinging! I'm a NASCAR fan, and if I were to kiss my brother it'd be the kiss of peace.

But I agree. I can't make heads or tails of college football.

It's not the game, or the players. It's the NCAA and the BCS. They have this "system" set up where only schools from certain conferences are even eligible for a BCS bowl(ask Hawaii about it). It's really not a whole lot different from the old way of choosing a mythical national champion. There's still a poll, it just has computers involved now. And on January 7, there will still be a mythical national champion. The only way it will change is for the powers that be to figure out a way to get just as much money out of a playoff. You're right Division 1A football is more of a business than a sport.

Yes, agreed - Div. 1 football where they have a playoff is a sport. Also agreed that all the conference championships are "real sports" - but when it all ends in bowl games where everyone can be a winner and a bunch of stogy old men pick who they think is the best two teams in the country and let them play for the championship - well, then there ain't no championship!

I'm certainly no NASCAR fan. I mean, I'd die if I had to go to a race or watch one, but at least they play each other all the way to the end and have a real championship! It's much more of a sport than college football. I will boycott the bowl games as well as the so called "championship" game. I'll be watching the Patriots lose to the Dolphins.

As an OSU grad. I think the old guys are picking about right. And, Nascar's a great sport -- I've enjoyed a race at Daytona myself.

LOL...and this coming from a guy who believes SURFING is a sport!

Surfing is not a sport. It is THE sport! The sport of kings. The platonic ideal of sport. In the warm waters around the equator, it is the closest thing to paradise on this fallen earth. It is beautiful and so far superior to all other sports that it opens one's mind to appreciate other sports -- humble as they may be.

Of course, if by sport one means the simulated warfare of American team games, then of course I'll concede that football is not a sport.

Shaka brah.

Hey, coming from someone who has tried surfing and whose bro-in-law is an incredible surfer...I can say, I'd much rather be playing bball than surfing. It just about killed me!!!! It might not be a "sport", but whatever it requires - I don't have.
