fixing problems...

Have you ever noticed that MANY pastors seem to believe that the purpose of the church is to "fix problems". All you have to do is listen to their preaching and attend their staff meetings and you'll soon discover that everything is focused around one thing: fixing problems. They preach on how to overcome temptation, or exhort the congregation to trust God more (especially in their giving;), and then they go to staff meetings and discuss how to fix the marriage problem in the church, or how to get the elders and deacons to do more, etc.

The purpose of the church is NOT to fix problems. The pastors job is not to fix problems.

The purpose of the church is to glorify God.  I believe one way we as pastors can do that is to be God-admirers and a God-magnifiers in our preaching, staff meetings...in our life. If we focus on fixing problems, we'll just find more problems to fix. If we focus on magnifying God and helping others learn to admire him, we will discover HIM in the midst of our people leading them to repentance and faithful obedience - leading them to glorify Him.

So many times when we go to fix problems, we interfere with what the Spirit is doing and end up making things worse. It also causes a pastor and church to constantly be in crisis mode. We're always going around putting out fires because the focus has become what is wrong with the church rather than on how can we better magnify God to the church.
