Wow! Where is this?

These pics were taken this weekend. My family went hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Boone. These particular pics were taken just below Grand Father Mountain (Tanawah Trail).

Funny, the whole time I was on the trail I was singing John Denver's "Country Roads". LOL...and once that song gets in your heard..."Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River. Life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains growing like a breeze..."

Now there, go sing it the rest of the day;)!

As soon as I read your title I thought it must be a place in the mountains. That is an absolutely beautiful area!

Gee, I left BJU and ended up at Appalachian State in Boone. Isn't God great?!

Dan...my son, Jordan is dying to go to ASU. He put his application in a couple of weeks ago, so we'll see.

It was a great school for me. I found more true Christianity there than I ever found at BJU! I also really enjoyed being a big fish in a big pond. My time at ASU and tutelage under your Dad did more to develop my leadership skills than 2.5 years at BJA/BJU. I wish Jordan the best.

Thank you. Oh, BTW, did you hear that Dr. Bob III and Dr. Bob Wood have "endorsed" Mitt Romney for Pres. Of course, the University is not endorsing anyone, but they have publicized his endorsement by the III and Wood. Fortunately, I don't think their endorsement is going to make much difference in the outcome.

There's a whole group of Bob Jones "expatriats" online. It's getting a lot of play. What was the saying..."It's never right to do wrong in order to get a chance to do right." Things that make you go "mmmmmm."

Is that a reason NOT to vote for Romney? :)

The BJU comment has to do with the teaching of the Bob Joneses regarding compromise and separation. In the late '70's, we were taught not to compromise the faith by associating with anyone who disagrees with them, which is a rather long list. We were taught to live totally separate lives from the world. In fact, when Jerry Falwell formed the Moral Majority, BJJr. actually said that by associating with Catholics, Mormons and Jews, Falwell was "building the world church of the Anitchrist." (Mark Taylor Dalhouse, AN ISLAND IN THE LAKE OF FIRE, University of Georgia Press, 1996, p. 108.)

Actually, I believe that BJIII's comments about Romney is a good sign. I think he's realized that, when one lives in a very real and very pluralistic society, one must sometimes "hold one's nose" and vote for the person one thinks will win.

I sincerely believe that if the administration at BJU would trust their students more and lax up on the rules, they'll have much more influence in fundamentalism. But, they didn't ask for my opinion.

BTW, there are some BJU graduates that are very upset about BJIII's decision, they see it as compromise. Given the teaching that I encountered when I was there, it is.

It IS a reason not to vote for Romney! LOL. Actually, I'm glad they're endorsing him as it ensures he won't win. It is interesting that they are doing what they separated from Fallwell for doing - joining up with the Mormons becuase they shared our morals.

Romney may be able to win a BLOOD RED state like S.C. - who knows, he may even be able to win the Republican nomination, but that will just ensure a needed change on the national level...IMHO.
