"...does this verse apply to me?"

echoes.gifIf you find hermeneutics mildly interesting then I think you'll find this excerpt from Richard Hays' book Echoes of Scripture in the Letters of Paul  wildly engaging!  If you haven't thought about hermeneutics...this should whet your appetite!

Taken from Echoes of Scripture in the Letters of Paul, pages 178-180:

"Bonhoeffer's direct personal appropriation of this verse from 2 Timothy is reminiscent of Paul's own way of appropriating Scripture, yet it seems to violate common sense and critical training.  How can Paul's instructions to Timothy in an ancient letter become God's direct summons to a German pastor almost nineteen hundred years later?  The dissonance between Bonhoeffer's faithful reading and the constraints of critical reading forces us to pause and address the long-deferred normative questions.  Does Paul offer a good model of how to interpret the Bible?"

Kerry...I'm good. Our Senior Pastor lost his wife this week so things have been really kinda wierd...and quiet. Life has been so busy. Basketball season has ended for my kids...so we enter the period of quiet in our families life (March - October...we ONLY play Basketball)...and I'm thankful. My wife will finish nursing school this May...and turn 40 in June...so, gonna be a fun spring/summer! Still hoping to get to Tennessee someday to see you...

peace.
